Rebecca Morrison the All American Babe

I was in a real wretched mood a few weeks ago after getting home from a rather brutally cold... there was an envelope from Lawrenceville, Georgia waiting politely on my bed, though and my mood was instantly like 'hoooraaaah!' Robin's mom aka. Rebecca Morrison aka. Wiiiing! always sends me the sweetest mail and I had a feeling this time would be no exception.

Lo and behold, what was enclosed in the envelope was downright treasure: 5 vintage photos plus a letter describing the background behind each picture! "Ever since I saw those awesome pictures of your Mom back in the day, I've been meaning to look up some of mine"... swooon! And so here she is Katie Girls, in all her 60's vinyl, white tights, romper and puff sleeved Georgia Peach glory... major babesville, I tell ya!

The Beginning of the End... Lolita vs. Lolita

After all my years of Lolita fascination, what d'ya know, I finally finished the book! I was expecting greatness, as well as great perversion, of course... what I got was all of that and about a thousand awkward me maniacally laughing on the subway in public moments. Is it just me or is Nabakov not only a twisted fuck, but a great comedic genius as well? One of my fave parts of the Nabakov's book (below) and Kubrick's film (above) is the scene where Humbert Humbert makes Clare Quilty recite a poem about why he is about to murder him, right before he does indeed do him in. Interestingly, this little scene opens the movie and ends the book... here they are in both forms... so wonderfully warped!

Because you took advantage of a sinner
because you took advantage
because you took
because you took advantage of my disadvantage
when I stood Adam-naked
before a federal law and all its stinging stars
Because you took advantage of a sin
when I was helpless moultng moist and tender
hoping for the best
dreaming of marriage in a mountain state
aye of a litter of Lolitas
Because you took advantage of my inner
essential innocence
because you cheated me--
Because you cheated me of my redemption
because you took
her at the age when lads
play with erector sets
a little downy girl still wearing poppies
still eating popcorn in the colored gloam
where tawny Indians took paid croppers
because you stole her
from her wax-browed and dignified protector
spitting into his heavy-lidded eye
ripping his flavid toga and at dawn
leaving the hog to roll upon his new discomfort
the awfulness of love and violets
remorse despair while you
took a dull doll to pieces
and threw its head away
because of all you did
because of all I did not
you have to die

Babe of the Biweekly? Vincent Gallo

Not to distract from my reaaaally up to date Fashion Week(s) commentary but Robin was talking about Buffalo 66 yesterday, which totally brought back my long time feelings of love and hate towards the actor/part-time singer/pseudo-artist/filmmaker/sperm-seller/narcissist, Vincent Gallo.

Aesthetically, the man is just what I like: part Pre-Raphaelite, part reformed criminal. Artistically, the man utterly captivates on screen (even when he tells Chloe to suck it in no uncertain terms) and in tune (haven't heard When? buy it!) It's really his larger than life douchebag persona that gets me going (in more ways than one!)...

Aside from hustling his own services on his website (while politely refusing to sleep with women of color and specifying that he'd like to impregnate Jewish women - oh wait, that's me!) and constantly working his own penis into any script he writes... it's what I like to think of as trying to 'pull the wool' that peeves me the most. I had the lucky chance to interview Vinny a few times last year over Fashion Week in New York and he had quite a few pearls to share about New Yorkers who discuss variations of the color white, Rodarte not being stuck in the mental world and fashion shows not being confused with portraits. (I would quote him directly but I'm scared he'll find out and attack!... he has been known to do such things)... I was lucky I was able to hold my tongue and not give him a piece of my mind slash tell him to call me!

So what do you guys? Should Vinny suck it? Or would... well, would you...?

The Faves of New York Continued...

Day Five: Marc Jacobs

For the first season in like a bil, I didn't have a complete faclempt-attack or mental breakdown on Marc Monday. Fall was easy on the eyes and easy on wearability (or at least dreaming of wearability) - just the way I like it once in a very long time.

See what I thought about the hyper-innocent makeup: http://www.interviewmagazine.com/blogs/fashion/2010-02-16/marc-jacobs-beauty/

Day Six: Rodarte

Jesus, this was a great collection... actually it was my fave of the week. I love that the Mulleavys were back in the romantic realm of their first few collections and I also loved the Texan Spanish Mexican narrative.

I make a little more sense here: http://www.interviewmagazine.com/blogs/fashion/2010-02-17/rodarte-nyfw-fall-2010/

Day Seven: Proenza Schouler

What the hell is it about a Proenza show that makes everything look hyper-familiar and just like you've never seen it at the same time. There were definitely shreds of it-girls like Alice, Chloe, and hell, even Lauren SD, but then there were those holy shit aspects like fun fur on varsity jackets and jagged swirl printed baby-doll meets sexpot dresses that made you do a quadruple take.

This Is Your Brain On Drugs

If you've ever felt the creative urge while on shrooms, I suppose you've ended up somewhere along the lines of my two new fave blogs ever, http://selleckwaterfallsandwich.tumblr.com/ and http://beaarthurmountainpizza.tumblr.com/. After discovering these gems via my friend Alice, I suddenly have the urge to collage Crystal Light packages with Evan Lysacek and the Whistler Mountains.

The Faves of New York. So Far...

Day One: Rachel Comey

My editor at Interview thought Rachel's gal took a page out of Faye Dunaway's book, but I kind of think that Rachel designs for our generation's heroine: the kind of girl who heavily layers, loves bunnies and always looks hasphasderdly perfect. I also think that Rachel knows that girl because she invented her. What do you think?

Day Two: Jeremy Laing

If they would have consulted fellow Canuck Jeremy Laing on how to inject some Canadian cool into the opening ceremonies of the Vancouver games, we would have been spared the neck-bearded poet, KD Lang and countless Native cliches. What we have gotten was amazing multi-layered rabbit, beaver, knit and Northern lit geometrics.

Day Three: Alexander Wang

A few things I hate: red velvet, ribbed chenille, odd fitting pinstripes. You'd think that I'd really hate Wing Wang's fall show... but think again my friend.

As if possessed by some otherworldly fashion god, I can't help but be drawn to the designer's naughty meets wall street 90's Le Chateau (shout out Canadians!) look. It really needs to be hanging in my closet like asaaaap.

Long Live Alexander The Great

I had barely downed my first sip of coffee this morning when I had the wind knocked out of me by the shocking news of Alexander McQueen's tragic death. I don't feel the need to put my stamp on the much-shared devastation, but I do need to vent just a bit. After all, I (and Robin!) do tend to not deal with death flashed in lights very well.

Every description that been used to describe Lee in the hours that have followed since his passing have been right on the money: visionary, huge talent, transgressor... the list could go on forever. And just as some of today's young designers like Jeremy Laing and Tina Kalivas, he was the starting point for so many, myself included.

My first exposures to fashion came hand in hand with his fantastical shows; Shalom getting sprayed with a robot laser painter is forever ingrained in my mind for one. And let’s not forget my almost outer-body reaction to his Spring 2010 collection, which really made me weep. I think most would agree that McQueen was a one in a million type of talent, a talent who pushed our minds beyond the far reaches our imagination.

As Tim Blanks said on Style.com, it’s unimaginable trying to imagine him trying to cope with the loss of his mother (and it's speculated that the loss of Isabella Blow still haunted him as well) near the end, and I hope he's found peace. For the rest of us, we're just left blowing in the wind wondering what the fuck to do next.

Can We Hang Out With You, Jeffrey Monteiro?

Here at The Katie Girls, we like to celebrate two things: 1. talented people that happen to be our friends and 2. exciting fashion news that somehow involves fashion icons of years past. The lovely person and recent news about Jeffrey Monteiro embodies of those things.

The Middle Eastern born, Australian raised, London educated designer has quietly been building a reputation over the past almost-decade for soft tailoring, romantic draping and a penchant for the masculin-feminin mix while holding top design jobs at cult houses Mayle and Derek Lam. Just over a month ago though, came the biggest coup. Monteiro was named the newest designer to take hold at the legendary house of Bill Blass. Though the house has had its share of tough times, the time for a full blown Blass renaissance has come, and Jeffrey has been touted as the man to start it (and keep his eponymous line too! Sheesh!

I've been jumping for joy since I heard the news, and so what did I do? Shower the man with questions, of course! Enjoy, Katie Girls!

I'm sure you've got lots of thoughts running through your mind about your new gig at Bill Blass, which are the ones that keep you up at night?
How to do justice to the legacy that was Bill Blass - at it's best.

What do you admire most about Bill Blass as a designer? How he was able to always design for his customer and the woman he surrounded himself
with. He didn't want to alter her in anyway. He just provided stylish clothes that allowed her to be who she was - elevating her enough so she would shine. His collections were always strong because he was so clear about who she was.

I love his quote when people asked him what he did "I am in advertising"... He epitomized the word dapper, not only his own persona but that of this work.

You've worked at different houses like Mayle and Derek Lam before as well as being the master of your own domain with your own line... what are your thoughts about each? Each experience is so different and you learn and grow from each.
Mayle was a small, independent company. It was very hands on and renegade in a way, doing things differently but having to fit into the system. Derek Lam was much more of an operation and on a very different level. With shows and much more of a corporate mentality. With my own line I strive to find a balance between my last two work experiences.

I remember that you were moving from the city to Brooklyn or the other way around, where are you living now? Where are your favorite hangouts in the area? I have lived on Manhattan for 7 yrs now moving back into the city from Williamsburg. Starting in the East Village and slowing moving further south over the last few years. I currently live on the far east side of the Lower East Side near the East River. (That's a lot of Easts) I love it. It has the feel of Brooklyn. Very neighbourhoody , and residential but you don't have to cross the river.

Favorite places that I love to go to in the hood - Zafi's Diner next to my apartment building. It's an authentic slice of old New York.
Bacaro for the mushroom gnocchi and a glass of wine. Brown Cafe- for the best coffee and banana muffins below Delancey St and Project No. 8b for some fashion indulgences.

What turns your crank about fashion... ie. why did you
want to be a designer?
It's all LOVE. Whenever I feel a little tired there's the next season to get on with. It keeps you motivated to make the next collection stronger and better. I love the pace and it's a way of telling a story and communicating.

Are you ever jealous that you can't wear your own designs? Ever thought about designing for men? I would love to do menswear and each season I think, I am going to do it. But then the women's takes precedence. I have been working on expanding the women's line with shoes so when I feel like that is fully set up. I'll tackle menswear. Maybe next season ;)

What's your favourite band? song? Of the moment - Bat for Lashes most recent album - love that Natasha Khan.

What is your standard uniform? Levi Jeans, Calvin Klein White or Grey T-shirt and trainers, a Margiela sweater for those chilly days and a custom shirt Made In Vancouver if I have to impress.

What is your current mood or inspiration? What can we expect to see in your first Blass collection? Bill Blass... it's a secret (but I am inspired by the character in Jacques Demy film - Bay of Angels) For Jeffrey Monteiro Fall Collection, the collection takes inspiration from Robert Polidori's photo's of Versailles in the 80's during a renovation.

The weather on the East Coast is so gross right now... what are you looking forward to most about Spring? Being able to ride my bike around the city again and the cherry blossoms in April.

Can you describe your style without using phrases like boho chic,
old Hollywood glamour or anything with a twist? Eclectically sophisticated.

(In case you were wondering, photos are of Jeffrey Monteiro's Resort and Spring 2010 collections)

Busy Bee!

In case you were wondering why I've been a bad little blogger for the last few months, you'll be comforted (or not?) to know that I've still been writing! Among my latest mini-gigs, I've done a little trend reporting on Men's Fashion Week and Couture Week for Interview lately, so check it out!

Stay tuned for Ready to Wear coverage later this month... whoot!

69 Vintage Goes Mallrat

For those of you Torontonians who may find yourselves a bit behind the times, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. We have a vintage mini mall right in our own hometown! Yes, that's right folks, 69 Vintage's little sister (all grown up now!) just went through a major reno and built herself a fine little empire at 1207 Bloor Street West (still at Lansdowne, just across the street)

With not one or two but three stories of vintage shops including Lost + Found, Promise to Repeat and Stacked as well as a main floor of Kealan Sullivan's typically awesome finds at 69 Vintage (oh and don't forget Buy the Pound in the back), the place is like a goddamn treasure trove.

'We all pick a little differently', is how Lost + Found's boss, Leah Gust, explains it. (Wait, this just turned into an article. Sorry) Wait, but they've also got goddamn vintage inspired sewing classes in the Make Den downstairs! (My friend Irene runs them, I swear she's a pro).

The store has been baby-stepping for a few months now, but last week was the official launch party. Innocently, I entreed thinking I'd leave with a buzz. Obviously I ended up with a purse that has turned out to be mightily impractical when accounting for modern day necessities (ie. does not allow for frequent Blackberry scrolling in-purse while sipping coffee)

If you are in the area you HAVE to check it out. The main store is open Tuesday-Sunday but all shops should be open on weekends! And don't forget to bring the dolla dolla bills y'all. Not all stylish chickadees can take Visa.

The Jersey Shore Finale and Reunion Episode Recap: Jersey Goes Gorilla!

Forgive me dear readers, as I’ve obviously omitted a brilliant episode, but only my deep deep appreciation of the J Shore Finale + Reunion forces my turtle-esqe coverage onwards! Let's recap the terms of the recap just to be on the safe side of the boardwalk...

I will be making random points about what I thought were the most amazingly ridic moments of the show. Those moments will then be rated by real-life resident Jerseyian, J Lorenzo in the following ways:

FISTPUMPS: J loves this! He would do the same! He wishes he was getting punched in the face or falling down the stairs… SNOOKI PUNCH: J thinks this is bogus, this would never happen on the Jersey Shore

Finale Episode: As we enter the opening scene of the finale, Snooki and Sammi ‘Sweet Tits’ are in a tizzy. Ronnie has just been arrested and/or won the juiced punch contest and has been dragged off to the big house. What do they do? Eat chips and call 911 naturally!

Randi Says: Right off the bat, Pauly’s shown cuddling with the Israeli Stalker (aka. disgrace to the chosen people). Bad sign. “You’re acting like Israelis”, she says (obviously this is her only reference point) and Pauly says that if they were Israelis they’d be using machine guns. This is funny, not true/sort of true and just bad in general.

J Says: I don’t remember this happening... Pauly D cuddling with the Israeli?! I sooo do not support!!! Why do I not remember this?!

Randi Says: When Snooki calls the Police Station she just says, “Hi, I’m looking for Ronnie”

J Says: 10/10 Fistpumps!!! I mean... Can we expect any more/less from her?!

Randi Says: Sweet Tits feels the need to give special enunciation to ‘this is the first night I slept by…my…self”. She’s a such a selfish hag.

J Says: She deserves 10973403294 Snooki punches!!! Ummm... And she emphasized that she hadn’t slept without Ronnie the whole summer... Really?! I remember you were chomping on Mike’s d*** the first few days, Sweet Tits!

Randi Says: The Sitch’s reaction to the whole Ronnie drama is the best… “That’s what happens at the Jersey Shore”.

J Says: 10/10 Fistpumps wayyy high!!! It’s true, that IS what happens at the Jersey Shore... Trust me, I would know!

Randi Says: J-Woww just raised the bar on Jersey Shore attractiveness-twilight-zone to a whole new level… She wants to do a gorilla? Actually?

J Says: 500000000000 Fistpumps through the roof!!! That’s what we call ‘em here in Jersey, and that is sooooo my type! Gorilla all the wayyy!!! Wooh Wooh Wooh!!!

Randi Says: After she says that ‘Gorilla Juiceheads’ are her weakness, the camera pans to a semi attractive lean beach body, J-Woww points out that she most certainly was NOT referring to him… haha!

J Says: J-Woww got so many Fistpump points from me this episode it’s ridic! I felt a bond...

Randi Says: Another Sitch classic line; “Hey Ma, this is my new girlfriend for the next few months until summer comes and I break up with her”

J Says: 10/10 Fistpumps but he deserves Snooki punches!!! Typical Jersey Shore douchebag... Uggghhh... Thank God I only have sex with the ones that are “straight” and have these “few months” girlfriends... Ughhhh!

Randi Says: Snooki’s solo dance party on the beach is so so so so amazing. I would definitely slip her a fiver. And the best are the tourists’ facial expressions… somewhere between amused and utter disgust.

J Says: 9/10 Fistpumps! Apparently this is a young Jersian (Jerseyan?) thing... Cuz when tourists are around, they never know how to react to us... And Snooki’s got nothing on me! I apparently dance like a Stripper and I sooo support myself for it!!! (Editor's note: J is clearly fond of 'supporting' things...)

Randi Says: Ronnie refers to Sam as hysterical. Like, actually?

J Says: *PUKE*

Randi Says: I have multiple comments surrounding the Snooki Sitch’s Make Out Sesh:

-“If your hungry try a Snickers”… coming from Sitch, wouldn’t Snooki be insulted? Like, didn’t he just call her fat last episode?

-Why is she licking his nose?

-Obv Sitch refers to getting down with Snooki as ‘real quick’… he couldn’t help the Freudian slip...

Randi Says: Big point here: Why does everyone make repeated references to people taking away their memories? What the eff did their daddies do to them!

J Says: 7/10 Fistpumps... It’s a Jersey thing...

And now for the big guns… The Reunion

Randi Says: Ronnie’s fat and untanned blobness is grossing me out. I finally see what they mean about the tanning salon….

J Says: 10/10 Fistpumps! TOLD YOU!!! Nobody ever understands when I say tanning makes people like 39074574303 times hotter, and this proved it!!! And he really needed to stop laughing with his head back, it was NOT pretty...

Randi Says: I want to copy Pauly D and Sitch’s Beat the Beat Handshake Dance!

J Says: You make me sick Randi!

Randi Says: After Pauly D says “I’m Italian, I ain’t trying to rep no Jewish girls’ he gives the greatest ‘oh shit’ face ever.

J Says: 8/10 Snooki Punches. Just kidding”... Ummm, no you weren’t bitch! Psh!

Randi Says: OMG Sitch and Angelina aka. Jolie hooked up? WHY WASN’T THAT ON CAMERA?

J Says: I don’t remember this... I think I was too high on my meds form my hair transplant to remember all of this...

Randi Says: Vinny's total fess up to the fact that he’s never moving out of his momma’s house is amazingly entertaining.

J Says: 10/10 Fistpumps! That's the way we do! You go Vinny! You go!

Randi Says: SMUSH resurfaces!!

Randi Says: Sammi: “ I get very eww”

J Saays: My fave was Ronnie’s “That was yuckie like your face!” to the Sitch!

Randi Says: Even I don’t appreciate the ridiculousness of S and R’s breakup.

J Says: 10/10 Snooki Punches! They’re still together cuz they are Tweeting about shit together... Now don’t think I follow them, I just read this on Jezebel.com... (Editor's note: I'm a proud follower of all Jersey castmates! They are the ultimate Tweeters!)

Randi Says: Sammi is already ordering people around backstage. “Get me the first flight home”, haha1

J Says: Ummm... Isn’t home like a 30 minute car ride away from MTV studios in NYC?

Randi Says: Snookie: “Where did my pickle go?” of course is in reference to her not getting laid.

J Says: Oh Snooki! Aren’t you eating Mike’s pickle?!

Lanvin's Going Bag Lady Chic for Pre-Fall 2010

I feel like such a ninny opinionizing Pre-Fall this late in the game, but I’m just going to come out there with one point before I get on with it. Can we for just a sec all agree that the in between collections are like 4000 times better than the big kahunas of Fall and Spring? Balenciaga! Givenchy! Each collection was more perfect than the next! Agreed?

Anyways though, what I really wanted to talk about is how awesome Lanvin’s bag-lady extravaganza was. While some still cleave to minimalist simplicity, I always prefer a collection that embraces an ‘everything but the kitchen sink’ type of haphazard layering (lets not forget my undying love for Edie Beale either...) I can certainly see myself in Elbaz’s animal print-tastic overdone outfits and the fact that he is said to have been inspired by the ‘leopard lady’, a Parisian woman who is never seen without her leopard coat, even during 90 degree temps, tickles my particular fancy!

The Jersey Shore Episode 7 Recap: What Happens in Atlantic City Stays in Atlantic City (unless it's broadcast nationwide...)

Given that Jers Shore Finale is happening this Thursday (!!!), you’ll only be getting my two cents for approx. three episodes, but here goes, Guidettes! I will be making random points about what I thought were the most amazingly ridic moments of the show. Those moments will then be rated by real-life resident Jerseyian, J Lorenzo in the following ways:

FISTPUMPS: J loves this! He would do the same! He wishes he was getting punched in the face or falling down the stairs…

SNOOKI PUNCH: J thinks this is bogus, this would never happen on the Jersey Shore

Episode 7 was like a trip down memory lane for me, as I myself took a similarly grimy trip to Atlantic City when I was a Teen Vogue intern. During our weekend of amazingness in good ole AC, my wallet was stolen; passport confiscated and learned that many Atlantic City residents carry guns in their cars as a regular practice. Ok, on to my fave moments of this latest hour of bliss:

Randi Says: I’d first like to point out that I have a major hate-on for Sammi ‘Sweetheart' because she is not ‘hot’ in the least bit and I can’t understand how she got her ‘hot girl’ crown. She is also a drunken mess like 75% of every episode and says the most ridic things ever and somehow always gets Ronnie to apologize! Please explain! Am I doing something wrong? Should I be wearing bootie shorts every say too? Should I compulsively be touching my razor sharp mousy grey/brown hair too? Euch.

J Says: 8/10 Fistpumps... All Guidettes have their men on leashes! But their men also be fistpumping with every girl in site behind their back, so it’s a typically balanced Jersey relationship.

Randi Says: Ronnie starts calling J-Woww J-Lo for some reason in this episode. Is he trying to be funny (because he’s the funny one?) or are the Roids just getting to his head?

J Says: 10/10 Fistpumps... Those juiceheads always be changing names... Remember he started calling Snooki “Schnikers” within the first five minutes of the first episode.

Randi Says: The Situation believes that him and his date were pretty cute… what?

J Says: Is this the “sloppy seconds”? If so, 100000000 Fistpumps!!! That is every guido and guidette EVER TO BE BORN! That girl was a camera whore anyway, AND a hooker! Well, “hooka” if you say it with my accent.

Randi Says: Snooki’s general encounter with ‘The Cowboy’ was like the best thing ever! All of these amazing lines happened in under 10 minutes!

“I like save animals”
“I’m not a Guido I’m a Guidette” (big distinction here I suppose...)
“I really liked him, I don’t know why we didn’t have sex”
“I know he’s clean”

J Says: 7/10 Snooki Punches! No self-righteous Guidette would ever hook up, nor even want to hook up with some “cowboy”. He was nasty anyway, clean as The Situation, as far as I’m concerned.

Randi Says: I’m not even going to wait for J’s commentary… 10 fist pumps way UP for The Situation and Vinny’s fight about being cocksucksers

J Says: 10 Fistpumps indeed!!! This is just self-explanatory.

Randi Says: Ok wait. Pause. One thing I’d like to point out amidst all of these delightful comments is that this is the first episode where I started to feel like the show’s hilarity was a tad scripted, like maybe it’s because I don’t know a thing about Italians, but Pauly’s Israeli flame is something I sure do know a thing our two about: Firstly, there is like no way in hell she would suggest to eat Kosher food because Israelis never eat kosher food! Secondly, she would not have been freaked out about having pre-marital sex because obvi that’s the only kind of sex Israelis know and love!

J Says: 10/10 Fistpumps... Honey you haven’t been livin in Jersey... Those Israeli bitches be all about those hottt Gotti Boys Guidos... And they definitely stalkas! Me and my boy had to deal with one of them bitches the other night, AT A GAY BAR!!!

Randi Says:
While we’re still on the Israeli chick, I love how Pauly doesn’t even have a Passport! I mean what would the point be in visiting Italy, right?

J Says: 8/10 Fistpumpsss... These guidos think they Italian, but they aint! Talk to one about why they drive BMWs, and they say “because it’s Italian”

Randi Says: Ronnie appears to have made his first funny: The Situation: “I like my girls like my clothes, with plenty of options” Ronnie: “You like your girls like your underwear, dirty”

J Says: 3 Snooki Punches... Ronnie just makes me sick...

Randi Says:
I’m sad to say that I were on JS, I’d probably be Snooki. If only for the fact that she’s always saying ‘Fuck my life’. But really though, poor effing Snooki! The Sitch calling her fat was probs worse than the Sucker Punch in the bar.

J Says: 5/10 Fistpumps for the Sitch... Please, I called that bitch a fat how at the D’Jai’s Reunion Party cuz her and her busted friends were splashing water in the pool all over everyone, even though they were wearing the full Fall Collection of sparkly dresses from Joyce Leslie... TRASH! (Editors note, I have no idea what J is talking about here but it sounds sooooo authentic doesn’t it?)

Randi Says: lolsies x1000 to “I want to stab him in the eyeball”

J Says: 2/10 Fistpumps... I’ve heard better, they need to find some hardcore guidettes. This aint nuttin as to what I’ve seen!

Randi Says: Why is J-Woww always humping guys on stages? Humping. Not Grinding.

J Says: 10/10 Fistpumps! I do that shit too girl! You go J-Woww, You go!!! Woooooohhhhh! But I grind as well, and touch myself, so I’m better!

Randi Says: lastly, the other non-reality based comment I have is that after J-Woww punches The Sitch, the security crew bursts through the door like as its happening… wtf!

J Says: 1000000000000 Fistpumps... That’s cuz people know us Jersey bitches are unpredictable... You gotta always be ready with security... Just come to a club sometime with me this summer! We party like rockstars!!! Wooh Wooh!!!

Stay tuned Guidettes! Episode 8 coming right up!

Doodles Couture

Sometimes the lines between art and commerce are so deliciously confused that we drool over must-have merchandise while simultaneously kvelling over modern-day masterpieces. Such is the case with illustrator Cédric Rivrain’s genius sketches for Maison Michel’s Spring lookbook. Injecting even more whimsy to Laetitia Crahay’s designs, Rivrain has morphed the familiar faces below into Mucha-esque subjects. Bravo!

Lou Doillon's Magic Boobs, Stairway to Kate Moss Heaven, Heidi Bunny Mount.

Sunbather Anouk Lepere (I think), MK and A have a Pet (I am obsessed with this one!), Milla Jovovich is a Goddess!
Lara Stone's does Bardot so well, Irina Lazareanu Blooms, Sasha Pivovarova in Kitties and Dolls!

Get Ready to FISTPUMMMMMMMMMMMMMP!

As any of my Facebook Friends or Twitter Tweeps would know, I recently found love... on the Jersey Shore. If there is some earthly reason why you don’t understand what I mean, here’s a little peek!

Since the show’s premiere just short of a month ago, the show has become too big a part of my consciousness for me to ignore it on le blog. So, starting next week (sorry… in LA this weekend)… I’ll be presenting my weekly (hopefully) Jersey Shore Recap.

For a bit of credibility, I’ll be raising my Jersey Shore points to a real-life Jerseyan, my fabulous friend J Lorenzo, who while being Cuban and not Italian, sports a Snookiesque coloured tan and loves to drink in hot tubs sans underwear. But wait, here’s where the main shred of credibility reigns, his sister used to date Vinny (aka. the college grad who is ‘not a Guido but likes to fist pump like the rest of them’)!

Stay tuned Guidettes!

Ode to Lara and Lara

I'm probably not the first to make this connection, but isn't Lara Stone a dead ringer for an early Julie Christie (aka. Dr Zhivago's lady love, Lara)? This month's British Vogue shoot has me humming Lara's theme with particular gusto...

Update Alert! I just read that Lara was actually named for Julie's famed character!

Hip Hip Hooray! Jeffrey Monteiro to Bill Blass

Because this blog is really all about ME and the people I know and love, I just wanted to give a quick lil shout out to Jeffrey Monteiro, who’s just been appointed Head Designer at the legendary house of Bill Blass. I can't wait to see how Jeffrey's quiet tailoring and bold colour combos shape the house of Blass in the coming seasons.

He’s got big shoes to fill, but me thinks he’s just the man to do it! After all… he did give me my favourite fall-inbetweeny black and grey tweed cardigan coat. If I was on the Jersey Shore, I'd have been fist pumping all weekend...

Swift Idolatry

If this 24 year old has been hesitant to raise her teen freak flag until now, let it be known: I’m a die-hard Taylor Swift fan. Not so much in the sense that I know the words to more than even one of her songs, but in the sense that worshipping her (and anyone else who has a face for ABC Family) excites me like nothing else. It reminds me of temp-tattoos, Chupa Chups and crank calling 1-800-COVERGIRL.

But before I wax on about my days as an obsessed Backstreet Boys fan, let’s get back to Tay Tay and her amazing looking spread in the just-released T Magazine. If Sharon Tate circa Valley of the Dolls and Sue Lyon circa Lolita had a baby who inspired Prada’s Spring collection… it’d be Taylor don’t you think? Don’t you loooooove her in clunk shoes? And the bouffant? I die!

Pop (Up Shop) Life

The Pop Up Shop has become so darn catchy in the last year that the term may as well be entered into the 2010 Websters (along with Tweet, Twit and Twerp, of course... ) Leave it to the masters though, to make it seem like the Pop Up was their idea from the start.

Holt Renfrew showed up to the Pop Up party (I just want to say Pop Up again, okay?) with bells on, in their new temp space at 560 King St. West in Toronto, which is open until this Sunday. Featuring a jazzed up decidedly un-Holtsish space of contemporary and vintage clothes, accessories, trinkets and beauty products, the the shop is carefully constructed to look as chicly random as possible. Everything from vintage YSL to Philip Sparks to Sorel boots is mixed together in a hodgepodge of buy-me-now!

Aside from all the die-worthy clothing of course, the best thing about the shop is most certainly it's button-maker! After volunteering myself as official Button Officer, I found myself quite unable to stop stamping everything from initials to magazine cutouts and adorning my shirt with my designs! Check out how cute I made my friend Suzanne look! And look at my shirt! And look at all the great buttons I made for the customers!

Art Attack: Besties As Models

Procrastination ain't such a bad thing when you're busy discovering gems like I just did! While in one of my dontwannawork moods, I happened upon the work of up-and-coming photographer, Nicole Lesser. She works with photo gods like Ryan NcGinley and is currently getting her BFA at the New School, but as if that weren't enough... her photos already look like those of a seasoned photographer. What I especially like about Nicole's work is that it seems to have the same raison d'etre as the blog's! Nicole's work is based upon her relationships with her subjects, who are all her friends. Gee wizzz...
