The CFDA's Latino Glamour Shots

To celebrate next week's CFDA Awards, the cameras were turned on the nominees for a majorly glossy and slightly ridiculous looking photoshoot. Don't get me wrong - the boys are looking totally babeular, but to my mind they are kind of also reminding me of cast members of a Latino soap. Or just any soap opera in general...

Alexander Wang: the androgynous, controlling mafia master who controls his
robotic girl-clan with even the slightest of glares

Joseph Altuzarra and Prabal Gurung: Two star-crossed lovers who cling to the wives that were picked by their family yet long to be dressing in drag together

Marc Jacobs: the elusively insane brother who's physical appearance is never made but mental influence is always felt

The Faves of New York. So Far...

Day One: Rachel Comey

My editor at Interview thought Rachel's gal took a page out of Faye Dunaway's book, but I kind of think that Rachel designs for our generation's heroine: the kind of girl who heavily layers, loves bunnies and always looks hasphasderdly perfect. I also think that Rachel knows that girl because she invented her. What do you think?

Day Two: Jeremy Laing

If they would have consulted fellow Canuck Jeremy Laing on how to inject some Canadian cool into the opening ceremonies of the Vancouver games, we would have been spared the neck-bearded poet, KD Lang and countless Native cliches. What we have gotten was amazing multi-layered rabbit, beaver, knit and Northern lit geometrics.

Day Three: Alexander Wang

A few things I hate: red velvet, ribbed chenille, odd fitting pinstripes. You'd think that I'd really hate Wing Wang's fall show... but think again my friend.

As if possessed by some otherworldly fashion god, I can't help but be drawn to the designer's naughty meets wall street 90's Le Chateau (shout out Canadians!) look. It really needs to be hanging in my closet like asaaaap.

Our Take: Alex Wang Goes Deep

Looking through Wing Wang's latest foray into beige Americana kinda felt like the first time walking through the halls of high school. I knew I'd kinda been there before, but it looked different and that was irking me out. And I always feel like that when a newish designer throws a curve ball like this. It's like 'wait, if I don't like this are you all going to judge me for being narrow minded'?

So, I'm just gonna put it out there....I expected slick body-con and what I got was bleached cheerleading...and actually you know what? I kinda liked it! There was just enough Wang angle-slashing to remind me of the good old days, but enough of a new direction to widen the horizon of Wang's future mass appeal. I'd give a whole-hearted bravo, but I'm still getting into it...

Alex Wang: Our Take

Little Wing Wang, as we like to call him, has done it again. Every season, we hold our breath thinking 'don't believe the hype! don't believe the hype!'...and within five turns of the designer's signature sexy rock 'n roll, the hype envelopes us and we can't help but be outright emotional about his unbelievably cool clothes. This time around, Wang mixed it up with some serious bandage leggings (love love love) and a tailored, lapel-less blazer than felt oh-so-fresh.

Randi's Pick

The Grace Jones undertone of this collection made me absolutely wild and this number in particular really drove that reference home. From the Alaia-esque boob-cups to the glittery head wrap, I totally felt like a a slave to the body-con rhythm.

Robin's Pick

This look really did it for me — sexy, but not too obviously so, and would be great in a variety of lengths (hello evening gown/beach cover up/Friday night). Granted this may not be the most flattering piece for most body types, but there's definitely something about the silly string-esque drape-age that totally works. Also, love the interesting layering with the sexy black basic underneath that had me wondering just how low a tank could go.
