The Classy Trashy Index with Derek Blasberg

Derek Blasberg aka Man-about-Manhattan stopped by this side of the border this week for a fête (or two) in honour of his book Classy, which is an essential guide for young women who don't know the difference between showing a little skin and showing a little nip. Derek is the kind of guy that any self respecting struggling writer would just have to love to hate. He's everywhere all the time. He's got all the best gigs (writing for Style.com, Vogue, Interview and the list goes on...), all the cutest friends (the cutestest being gap-toothed Byrdie Bell, who played model in his book and gal pal last night) and as it would appear just the best life ever.

He’s also the kind of guy though, that completely disarms you at first look. Last night at the party at The Room at The Bay, I totes developed that kind of warm new-friend feeling towards Derek, so much so that I would say it was a crush. He is not only cool (obvi!) but really hilar, über-friendly and didn't make me feel awkward for pointing out that we had actually met a few times before. Also, he told me and my bestie that we looked like sisters (which we've heard about a mil times) and that it was a good thing that we were both beautiful because neither one of us would be considered the dog twin.. Swoonsville!

In honour of the book's theme, I put Derek to a bit of my own Classy vs Trashy questionnaire and found out that while the man has some strong opinions on what is and what is not acceptable – he finds it a bit difficult to disapprove of having some old fashioned fun (maybe).

Is having two drinks with dinner classy or trashy?
It's classy if you keep the fluids going. Always drink one glass of water per drink!

Is wearing tights as pants classy or trashy?
Trashy except in extenuating circumstances...

Being?
If they look hot!

Is sneaking a funny photo of an unassuming victim on your Blackberry classy or trashy?

I wouldn't even say that was classy or trashy, that's just plain DANGEROUS!

Will clogs post Spring 2010 be classy or trashy in your books?
Trashy with an asterisks... this is to be revisited by me next season.

Is it classy or trashy to double fist? (for the record, I MEANT DRINKS!)

Is eating every hors d'oeuvre at a party classy or trashy?
Classy! As long as you don't make a meal out it! Although there was this one phase in college that I won't get into...

Day Five: Marc Jacobs

For the first season in like a bil, I didn't have a complete faclempt-attack or mental breakdown on Marc Monday. Fall was easy on the eyes and easy on wearability (or at least dreaming of wearability) - just the way I like it once in a very long time.

Day Six: Rodarte

Jesus, this was a great collection... actually it was my fave of the week. I love that the Mulleavys were back in the romantic realm of their first few collections and I also loved the Texan Spanish Mexican narrative.

Day Seven: Proenza Schouler

What the hell is it about a Proenza show that makes everything look hyper-familiar and just like you've never seen it at the same time. There were definitely shreds of it-girls like Alice, Chloe, and hell, even Lauren SD, but then there were those holy shit aspects like fun fur on varsity jackets and jagged swirl printed baby-doll meets sexpot dresses that made you do a quadruple take.

Talent Scout: Veronica So

Talent Scout is a section we are really passionate about. Our friends are really cool. Naturally, they are capable of some really cool shit. They know it, we know it, now you know it too!

We met Veronica So much the same way we met each other: through Andy Warhol's golden gate of social life for the struggling intern in New York: Interview Magazine. A native to California, and currently a Fashion Communication major at Central St. Martins in London, Veronica sports a real cute bob and wears lots of black.

Veronica is perhaps most famously known to the two of us by having been injured when Andy's (or at least we like to think it was his...) large marble table collapsed on her lap. Also, she threw the raddest birthday party in history by renting out room 822 in the Chelsea Hotel (a room once graced by Madonna and Nico no less!) and then proceeded to throw her unwanted clothes on the floor for us to scavenge through.

Lately, Veronica is into vampires. This is what she has to say about some pictures she shot this weekend:

"The shoot was great! It was kind of funny like, oh look at Pun as a vampire chasing Heidi around the studio haha! It was really fun. They are both huge Twilight aka Edward Cullen fans..."

This is a Tale of Cross Border Love...

The two R’s – known to some as Randi and Robin – met while interning at Interview Magazine. After a quick bonding session over their shared love for art history and Woody Allen flicks, the two spent all too much time looking for a Taco Bell that would deliver, and realized that their meeting was fate! The two R’s became the two Katie Girls when Randi temporarily relocated to Toronto and they needed to streamline their endless Face-stalking, YouTube-ing, and cultural findings into a creative forum.
